It’s hard to believe that the end of the semester is less than a week away! It seems like yesterday that I was writing the first blog of the semester. Nevertheless, KWTS is making preparations for going off the air for the summer. We say “off the air,” but we’ll still be playing the best commercial-free music; there just won’t be DJs live in studio.
Staff applications have been reviewed and the directors and shows have been picked for the fall 2015 semester. We announced those positions during our Mass Communication End of the Year Awards Ceremony last night.
Allison Myers will be returning to the General Manager position after a semester as News Director. Martha Alvarez will stay on as Program Director, and so will Avery Taylor as Music Director. Payton Northrup will take over as Sports Director. Kase Wilbanks will fill the News Director position.
Here’s the schedule for the special shows:
Unsportsmanlike Conduct on Sundays from 7 to 9 p.m.
P.M. in the A.M. Monday through Friday from 7 to 9 a.m.
Rockin’ into the Night on Tuesdays from 9 to 11 p.m.
Super Nintenduo on Wednesdays from 1 to 3 p.m.
The Top 21 on Thursdays from 5 to 7 p.m.
The Rocket on Thursdays from 9 to 11 p.m.
Great Dane’s 8-bit Boombox on Fridays from 5 to 7 p.m.
It was very difficult to pick the shows and directors for next semester. We know that those who may not have received a position for next semester will be ready when the time comes. We will also have some great teams that will help these directors out with their duties here at KWTS.
We also handed out some awards voted on by KWTS staff to special shows and staff members who stood out among the crowd. Keith Augustine was voted Rookie of the Year. Malcolm Montgomery was voted Most Improved On-Air Personality. Kase Wilbanks was given the Staff Excellence Award. Electric Baboon Tattoo was honored with Underwriter of the Year. The HandsomeMan Morning Show was voted Best Special Show.
KWTS would like to give a huge thank you to our adviser, Randy Ray, our broadcast engineer, Johnny Story, our graduate assistant, Maddisun Fowler, and to all of our underwriters for your support. We couldn’t do it without you!
On a personal note, I would like to thank all of my fellow directors and staff members for your hard work this semester. It has been a great privilege to be the General Manager for KWTS The One 91.1! – Kase Wilbanks
The bad part about the end of the semester is those dreaded finals… Tell us where you like to study!
