This week is always known by Mass Communication and Communication majors as one of the busiest weeks of the year as it is Communication Week here at West Texas A&M University. This is a time when we have a chance to not only have fun, but we can showcase some of the amazing things we do here in the Mass Communication/Communication department.
On Monday, we kicked the week long festivities with the Reel Talk Video Competition that pinned the Electronic Media, Communication, Ad/Pr, and graduate students against each other to see who will make the best 30 second promo about their major. The graduate students came out on top as they won the best video.
Tuesday was the student’s time to network with fellow WT alums as they took part in the Alumni Table Talk. Students met with former WT Buffs and had the opportunity to ask questions about anything involving outside of college such as finding a job, what to put on the resume, how to approach interviews, and more.
Today, we had Reel Talk Project Runway where Mass Communication and Communication professors dressed up like a movie character and walked their way into the hearts of the crowd. Professor Lori Westermann won the competition as she dressed as Elastigirl from the Pixar film “The Incredibles”.
And tomorrow, we will close it out with our guest speaker Will Bigham speaking to the university about his experience with the film industry. Bigham was the winner of the 2007 reality show “On the Lot” and has directed and wrote films such as “The A-List” and “Seasons”. A special presentation of “Seasons” will be shown following Bigham’s speech.
This week is another way we can show ourselves off as one of the top programs in the country. We don’t consider ourselves a program as much as to us, we are more of a family than anything. KWTS loves to participate in these types of activities to show off the amazing things our program and department as a whole is doing. It’s another way to show our love for this wonderful school and the great things it does for us.
